VOGUE TARGET MARKET

      The masthead "Vogue" meaning trend is targeted at women in their late twenties who desire fashion, trends, and women who enjoy reading about it. The social class for Vogue is A/B class on the social demographic scale. Vogue is a female orientated magazine which advertises and promotes fashion, perfumes etc. 

GQ TARGET MARKET

T he GQ magazine is celebrity endorsed by an English actor Eddie Redmayne.  GQ is a magazine that is based on men, music, and models etc. However, it is more likely targeted at young males. The target audience is preferably young males between the ages of 16-28. Males between the ages of 16-28 are targeted because the magazine has stereotypical features inside in which a male would like such as accessories like watches, sunglasses, and clothing that makes you stand out by dressing out formal like Eddie on the front cover. It is aimed at fashionable men who are wanting to look professional and are able to further their success but also men who want to discover new fashion trends, to be up to date with fashion by making a bold and powerful appearance just like many celebrities on magazine covers.

GQ MAGAZINE REPRESENTATION 1 - MICHAEL B JORDON

His facial expression, stance and eye contact looks like he is concentrating and focusing on something interesting. There is a use of masculine colours - white,grey and black that normally connote a profession, success. I can tell that he is professional by his straight stance and his costume ( a suit and glasses ). Representation of wealth but also pride and determination referring tho the pull quote at the bottom left had corner. He is wearing a suit to connote the caption of the GQ magazine, to be for gentlemen that are into fashion preferably businessmen. Celebrity endorsement - Michael B Jordon.

THE BIG ISSUE COVER 2 - LIAM GALLAGHER

WRITTEN SIGNS:  His name"LIAM" is capitalized to show the magazine is about him and his importance in the music industry. This is because he is well known. Due to the fact that he is well known the target audience will want to purchase a copy of it and read the article on him. This magazine cover is representing white/working class males. This representation has been constructed by his facial expression connoting anger and seriousness.

GQ

"GQ - GENTLEMEN'S QUARTERLY" is the masthead of this magazine positioned which is positioned towards the top left of the page.  Within the masthead there is a caption "BRITISH" with is bold and capitalized in sans serif typography. This suggests that there are many editions around the world. This magazine is celebrity endorsed by Dave Grohl who is part of the punk rock group the "Foo Fighters". Underneath the masthead there is a dateline "June.2018" and a price "£3.99" which is fairly expensive. The target audience that this is targeted is at the working class but also music lover as they will see Grohl on the cover and supposedly purchase the magazine to read the article about him.

VOGUE

T he masthead is across the top of the magazine cover in a sans serif, red font. The colour red is used in the in -house style of the cover. This give connotations of drama but is the colour of love an passion.  The colour white connotes purity, innocence and elegance. Elegance is portrayed within this magazine as it links in with fashion and the masthead "Vogue" which is contextually shared from French for the lexis of trend.  The colour black gives connotations of dominance and power. Consequently, red connotes strong emotions and it is used because it attracts the target audiences attention as it is bright and vibrant. The flower in her hair is a representation of women being stereo-typically  viewed as being gentle and fragile but as the flower blossoms the beauty starts appearing.                                                                                                                                                                                           

GQ - DUA LIPA

The masthead is fully visible to the audience as part of it is placed over Dua Lipa's forehead. Each cover line is capitalized to make them stand out and to be eye catching whereas, the rest of the anchorage is in lowercase. Gender is represented on this magazine cover by using a female on a males magazine. The lexis of "British" connotes how many editions of the GQ magazines there are in different countries. This purpose of this is to attract mainly a male target audience due to the masculine in - house style (colour scheme). Different shades of grey are used in the background, the dark grey connotes self-discipline. The lighter shade of grey on the left hand side gives connotations of being smart, intelligent. The grey cover contrasts with the use of white used for the anchorage however, quite boring when stands alone.

This magazine cover is celebrity endorsed by Michael Jordon. The in - house style uses the colours black, grey, white and dark brown. These colours are used as they connote masculinity. The colour black connotes dominance and strength but also being professional and successful. The significance of the colour grey is dignity as it carries the sense of authority. The colour white connotes purity and perfection as it recuses us for the darkness in the in - house style. Sensational use of language "star" and "exclusive". The denotation of the lexis of "BRITISH" is that it is capitalised. This connotes how many editions of GQ there are in different countries.

WRITTEN SIGNS: "THE GENIUS OF GEORGE MICHAEL" is the main anchorage text used on the front cover of the magazine with the long shot of him in the background. This gives connotations of a celebration for George Michael and his work as he is universally recognised as a "GENIUS" in the music industry due to Michael being recognised as a truly global icon. Underneath the large, sans serif lettering there is a pull quote "I DIDN'T SIGN UP TO BE A HERO". The sensational language "EXCLUSIVE" gives an incentive to purchase the magazine. H is name is capitalised with a large and bold anchorage. SYMBOLIC SIGNS: The magazine front cover uses the in-house style of different shades of pink and white for the anchorage. the pink background is associated to be feminine but also a predominant colour to justify the celebration of being gay -homosexuality.
