Analysing Old Spice Advertisement


·       The aim of the “Old Spice advert is to target the target audience age range of 12-34 (younger men).

·       The institution aims to make the target audience feel cleansed and manly with the saying “I am the man your man could smell like”. This is connoting that the Old Spice guy in the visual advertisement suggests that all men should be like them.

·       The colour blue connotes the sea and the sky as shown in the image – it is also stereotypically a masculine colour.

·       The volcano at the top of his head suggest when this antiperspirant is put on the scent will explode on your body.

·       There are vibrant colours of the in the volcano – orange, red and yellow. The yellow connotes new beginnings, the orange gives connotations of mystery and the red connotes love or either a juxtaposition of this advert connoting anger.

·       It is an advert uses humour to persuade – different aspects of what to do on the beach.

·       A medium shot is being used with direct eye contact to engage with the audience.

Research - Vogue: Vogue is a fashion and lifestyle magazine covering many topics including fashion, beauty, culture, living, and runway. Vogue - a weekly newspaper in 1892 in the United States, it became a monthly publication years later. ANALYSIS OF MAGAZINE FRONT COVER: A sans serif font is being used for the typography of the masthead and the rest of the wording. The masthead is large and bold on the front cover in a gold font. This connotes that this magazine is pricy as gold is a prestige and a colour of luxury. The masthead in French “Vogue” means trend. The well known Beyoncé (music artist) on the front cover – to attract a target audience preferably teenagers to middle age people. It would attract a larger audience than a model would attract. The month of the issues release is under the “E” of the masthead “SEP”. This connotes it is a monthly magazine.
